Impact of a stable Iraq on the Middle East Peace Process

What impact would a stable Iraq have on direction of Middle East
political/peace efforts?

Dr. Ottaway:
"Directly, none. The Palestinian Israeli issues have nothing to do with Iraq. Indirectly, US credibility might be restored a bit, making it possible for the US to be seen again as an honest broker. That is not the case right now."

Dr. Bahry:
"A functioning government like Egypt or Jordan would be a great achievement and would help stabilize the area. With the proven oil reserves of Iraq, if it can have a free-market economy it could play a role in serving the peace efforts in the middle east as a whole."
